Kids books for Earth Day

Why not celebrate Earth Day with reading books that have environmental messages and activities?

For children,  I recommend:

  • "All the Way to the Ocean" by Joel Harper
  • "Earth Book for Kids" by Linda Schwartz
  • "Curious George goes Camping" by Margaret and H.A. Rey
  • "Winnie the Pooh: Roo's Big Nature Day" by K. Emily Hutta
  • "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein
  • "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss
  • "Grow It, Cook It with Kids" by Amanda Grant.

Reading books with children is a fun, easy, and ongoing way to promote the environment!

The Dog Pose

The Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Shvanasana) stretches the back, opens the chest, and builds upper body strength.

For a fun activity to do with kids, do this posture together and then have them color the Dog Coloring Book Page below, which is adapted from The ABCs of Yoga for Kids Coloring Book

Arbor Day and the tree pose

April 27th is National Arbor Day, and what better way to celebrate this special day dedicated to trees than by practicing the tree pose with your child!

The following yoga tree coloring book page and poem are adapted from The ABCs of Yoga for Kids.

Tree Pose
I am an old and solid tree.
My roots grow deep into the ground beneath me.
Bending one leg, I bring my foot to my thigh.
Balancing can be tricky, but I'll give it a try!
I focus my sight on a single spot.
Yoga improves my concentration a lot!
