I was thrilled to received the following e-mail and photos from Lauren Rubenstein, volunteer coordinator for the Bridge of Diamonds, which organizes ongoing trips to Haiti to teach yoga to kids there. What a wonderful thing they are doing!!

"Teresa,
Your materials added so much to our program; can't thank you enough!

Warm best,

The Turtle Yoga Posture

The turtle pose (Kurmasana) has many physical benefits, including increased circulation to the hip and groin area as well as stretching of the upper and lower back.

The poem and picture below are adapted from The ABCs of Yoga for Kids.

 From a seated position,
I bend my knees and open my legs wide.
I am becoming a shy turtle,
Carrying a shell in which to hide.
With my feet flat on the floor,
I bring my arms under my knees.
Looking down toward my belly,
I count, "One-two-three!"
Then slowly lifting my head out of my shell,
I look up and see that
The world around me is swell.

Children's Girl Scouts and Yoga

The ABCs of Yoga for Kids  is a great book for Children's Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts builds girls of confidence, courage and character through a variety of enriching experiences.

Yoga for Kids is an activity which, if practiced in a group, can bond girls together and empower them to make healthy lifestyle choices.

If our next generation could learn to calm themselves, while at the same time building strength and fortitude, our world would be a better place!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! The New Year is a time for change and resolution, a celebration of new hopes and dreams, and an opportunity to start with a clean slate.

What better time to continue to instill the health benefits of yoga for kids than this fresh month of January?

Kids should be encouraged to embrace yoga at a young age because during these formative years they are very impressionable and open to new ideas and concepts.Children who practice yoga develop a good value system as they learn to respect themselves and in turn respecting others.

Since yoga is a natural and healthy way for young children to exercise, relax, focus and strengthen their minds and bodies, what better gift could you give your child this New Year?!
